Emery The Weak’s End 10th Anniversary Tour 2014

We have been on the road for the last week as part of the Emery West Coast 10th Anniversary Tour. We are again joined by our friends This Wild Life and Matt MacDonald from the Classic Crime. So far the tour has been amazing! The West Coast has made for some rowdy shows in Seattle, WA, Portland OR, California, Arizona, and New Mexico. We are on the final week of the tour playing dates in Texas and Arkansas. This tour has been unreal and we are stoked to be a part of it. Tour Update - The Social @ Orlando, FL

Well what can we say? Tour has been amazing. Last night’s show at The Social in Orlando, FL was sold out! The crowd was amazing and Emery played like we have never seen them play before. Dan was in the pit and grabbed some footage while being jostled around by Emery fans. Check it out!

Emery Piano Cover

Our very own Dan Buckley made a piano cover of Emery’s song “Disguising Mistakes With Goodbyes” off their album The Weak’s End to honor them for 10 years of rocking out. Catch us and Emery on their The Weak’s End 10 year anniversary tour. Dates and ticket links below the vid.

No Sleep Till Brooklyn!

We are on the road again headed to Champagne, IL to practice up for the start of our tour with Emery. The first few days of a tour to the East Coast always involves a lot of driving. We usually do this in a straight 30 hour, 2,096 mile shot. Andy and Tay taking 8 hours shifts behind the wheel. We don’t let Dan drive because he falls asleep in cars (no really, automobile narcolepsy).

We’re really excited to start tour and we’ll be playing an acoustic set on 11 dates with Emery, The Classic Crime, and This Wild Life throughout the MidWest and East Coast (don’t forget Florida!) Please check out the info below for ticket links and come visit us at the town closest to you. Comment with what songs you’d like to hear in our set! More updates to come soon…

The Unofficial Band Guide To Being A Man

Goldman Sachs @GSElevator in collaboration with John Carney (@Carney) of CNBC.com recently released an unofficial list with tips on how to be a man. We edited it a little to apply to men who are in bands touring around the country.

(photo: Underoath - live)

• Stop talking about where you went to college… if you went to college.
• Always carry cash. Keep some in your front pocket, not just the merch box.
• Rebel from business casual. Burn your khakis and wear a suit or jeans, skinny jeans.
• Its okay to trade normalcy in your 20s and 30s for tour stories that others will find hard to believe.
• The best public restrooms are in hotels, and definitely not in venues. Alabama Music Box I’m looking at you.
• Never stay out after midnight three nights in a row … unless something really good comes up on the third night, like another show.
• You will never regret your tattoos.
• Never date an ex of your friend, that goes double if your friend is in your band.
• Join Twitter, but don’t talk about your band all the time.
• If living in a van for months on end with several smelly band guys doesn’t incentivize you to improve your station in life, nothing will.
• Time is too short to do your own laundry, so don’t do it.
• When the bartender asks, you should already know what you want to drink, and already know you’ll be paying for it with a drink ticket.
• If you perspire, wear a damn undershirt, or no shirt, I don’t care and neither will your fans.
• You don’t have to like hardcore music, but you should understand the concept of what a breakdown means. Approach life similarly.
• When people don’t invite you to a party, you should go.
And sometimes even when you are invited, you should also go.

• People are tired of you being the funny, drunk guy.

• When in doubt, always kiss the girl.
• Tip more than you should, but not so much that you’ll be stranded.
• You probably use your cell phone too often and at the wrong moments.

• Buy cheap sunglasses. You will lose them at every show.
• If you want a nice umbrella, forget about it, rain is just water trying to crowdsurf
• Do 50 push-ups, sit-ups, and dips before you drive to the next show every morning.

• Eat brunch with new friends at least every other weekend. Leave the van for a little while.
• Be a regular at more than one bar, or hundreds of bars across the country
• Act like you’ve been there before. It doesn’t matter if its El Corazon or the halftime show at the Superbowl.
• A PBR or two at a show will not ruin your day.

• It’s better if you and your friends cut your own hair. It saves money and its fun to give each other bad haircuts.
• Learn how to scream-sing
• No selfies. Aspire to experience photo-worthy moments in the company of a sold out crowd.
• Own a handcrafted shotgun. It’s a beautiful thing, and it keeps your van safe.
• There’s always another level. Just be content knowing that you are still better off than most who have ever played a show.
• You can get away with a lot more if you’re the one buying the drinks, you can also buy more drinks because you’ll probably have drink tickets.
• Ask for a salad instead of fries, vans are tiny, smelly spaces.

• Don’t split a check, use merch money.
• Pretty women who are unaccompanied want you to talk to them.
• Cobblers will not save your shoes. Get a Vans endorsement.
• When a bartender buys you a round, tip double, don’t give him a CD.

• The cliché is that having money is about not wasting time. But in reality, money is not as important as experiences you will remember the rest of your life.
• Be spontaneous, get in the van.
• Find a Times New Roman in the streets and a Wingdings in the sheets. Avoid the Gothic fonts. She exists.
• Piercings are liabilities in a moshpit.

• Do not use an electric razor. In fact, don’t shave.

• Desserts are for women. Order one and pretend you don’t mind that she’s eating yours.

• Buy fitted jeans before you are thirty. Stay that size.

• One girlfriend at a time is definitely enough. Don’t be that band guy.
• #UseTheRightHashTagsToPromoteYourBand
• Your ties should be burned.
• Throw parties.
But have someone else clean up the next day. You know, like a show at a venue.
• You may only request one song from the DJ.

• Measure yourself only against your previous album.
• Take more pictures. With a camera, with your phone, with anything you can find, you’ll want to remember these days later.
• Venue-dropping is worse than name-dropping.

• When you admire the work of artists or writers, tell them.
And spend money to acquire their work. Save the music industry, buy music.

• Your clothes do not match. That’s a good thing. Rock ‘n Roll.
• Yes, of course you have to buy her dinner. You better hope she likes McDonalds cause that’s all you can afford.

• Staying angry is a waste of energy, but it makes for great energy at a show.
• Revenge can be a good way of getting over anger, but making better music and the success that follows is the ultimate revenge.

• If she expects the person you are 20% of the time, 100% of the time, then she doesn’t want you. Also she probably doesn’t want you anyway because you live in a van.
• Always bring a bottle of something to the party. Even if it’s water from the stage the night before.

• Avoid that “last” whiskey. You’ve probably had enough, and you have to drive 18 hours to Virginia, be responsible.

• Don’t use the word “closure” or ever expect it in real life. There may still be a mortally wounded show promoter roaming the woods of south Jersey, but we’ll never know.
• If you are wittier than you are handsome, avoid loud venues.

• Drink outdoors.
 And during the day.
 And sometimes by yourself.
• Date women outside your scene. You’ll be surprised.

• If it’s got velvet ropes and lines, walk away unless you know someone.

• You cannot have a love affair with whiskey because whiskey will never love you back.

• Feigning unpretentiousness is worse than being pretentious. Cut it out with the hipster clothes and the reverb-laden guitars.
• The New Yorker is not high-brow. Neither is Alternative Press, but it’s all we’ve got.

• If you believe in evolution, you should know something about how Synthcore happened.
• No-one cares if you are offended, so stop it.

• Never take an ex back. She tried to do better and is settling with you.
• Eating out alone can be magnificent, but eating with your friends in the van is more fun.
• Read more. It allows you to borrow someone else’s brain, and will make you more interesting at after the show – provided that you don’t initiate conversation with, “So, have you heard of my band? …”
• Ignore the boos. They usually come from the cheap seats.
• Hookers aren’t cool, and remember, the free ones are a lot more expensive.
• Don’t ever say, “it is what it is.” Change it.
• Start a music collection for your kids when they are born. Add a few albums every year without telling them. It’ll make a phenomenal gift in twenty years.
• Don’t gamble if losing $100 is going to piss you off, and/or strand you on the side of the road.
• Remember, “rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men.”
